Designed from the outset to use as much natural light as possible, Bear Park Herne Bay uses transparency to enhance the open and natural environment. The use of mostly natural resources allows for deeper exploration and understanding of our world that is unique to New Zealand.

The Infant Toddler centre consists of two spaces. The Fantails (Babies) provides a nurturing and intimate environment allowing your baby opportunities to explore and create relationships with the world around them. The Kakapo Room (Toddlers) allows further extension to grow and develop, empowering each child to use their environment to further their relationships with both other children and teachers. Both the Fantails and Kakapos share a common outdoor garden and play area separated from the Preschool children by a low fence, allowing both groups to interact, yet remain in an environment designed for their individual needs.

The Preschool centre is split into three different areas, the centre of which is the hub of family role playing and a combined children’s dining room. On either side of this shared area we have two dedicated classrooms, catering for the specific developmental (and educational) requirements of this age group. While still nurturing the individual child, the Keas room also promotes independence and encourages children to begin forming their own theories as individuals and in group settings. The older Tui children focus on exploring their ideas, theories and concepts and engaging in long term investigations to test their hypotheses.  They build their own individual identity as well as developing an identity as part of a group.

In addition to the day to day teaching staff we also have an Atelierista who has a Masters in Art and Design as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education. The Atelierista works in a room called the Atelier, where children come either to work on an investigation, or to think about an idea through the mediums of painting, clay, paper, and all the materials that they can find in there. The children think about the Atelier as a different room to their classrooms; this is a quiet focused area where they know they have the space and time to further develop their theories. Our Atelierista works in both of the two Ateliers, one situated in the Infant Toddler Centre and one in the Preschool.

We have a dedicated and passionate team of professionals who love and care for your children, and who will ensure that your children are given every opportunity to develop in their own unique way.
